Plumbing Glossary

Supply Line

Piping that delivers pressurized potable water from the main to fixtures, water heaters, hose bibs, and appliances throughout the home or business.

Supply Line

What it means

Supply lines branch from the main shutoff through the water meter or pressure reducer to individual fixtures. Materials include copper, PEX, and CPVC sized for fixture demand and peak flow.

Flex supply connectors at toilets and faucets have finite life and should be replaced when corroded or bulging. Whole-house supply failures often trace to one aging segment under a slab.

Why it matters in Santa Cruz County

Santa Cruz repipes often replace galvanized supply in 1940s cottages with PEX homeruns from a manifold. Long supply runs in mountain chalets need insulation where pipes pass through unheated crawl spaces.

Homeowner tip

Replace braided supply hoses to washing machines and toilets every five to seven years as preventive maintenance.
